RESEARCH IN WEEK 1

David Carson is known as the godfather of trash. Since his unique, unconventional attitude revolutionized the design industry, he is considered as a pioneer in American graphic design.

In David Carson’s design, there is no design philosophy for permutations and combinations. All words and pictures are deconstructed, truncated, paragraphs collide, they can be fragmentary, and reversed. All design elements reappear in an irregular but dynamic and imaginative way, even the ink stains of the printing become a part of the design.

Saul Bass is good at using simple fonts and geometric fusion, which makes his works have distinct personal characteristics. He added the concept of motion on the basis of graphic design and started the upsurge of motion image design. In the poster design for The Man with the Golden Arm, he used concise and abstract graphic design method, which changed the design style of movie posters centered on the portraits of actors.
