Views on the Exhibition of Luca Giordano’ Paintings

Luca Giordano was a famous Italian painter in the 17th century. His paintings have a healthy personal style. The Venetian and Barlow styles are part of his paintings. He produced nearly a thousand works in his lifetime. Most of his works embody the Neapolitan style. Besides, in the process of combining other painting styles, his paintings laid the foundation for the emergence of the Rococo style.

In the exhibition of Luca Giordano’s paintings, there is one striking feature. Most of his paintings do not use bright colors, so the whole picture does not look so bright. But in the works on display, some of the characters are often dressed in bright blue or red. Figures dressed in bright blue or red are usually in the middle of the painting. Therefore, the audience’s eyes are always attracted to these characters. And the figure in the bright clothes is the figure of justice. For example, in the painting work, Le Mariage de la Vierge, in the middle of the painting, sits the virgin, dressed in blue, looking quietly at the carpenter who kneels to propose to her.

Some Baroque paintings are also on display. For instance, in the painting work Il Ratto delleSabine, Some tough soldiers are looting the Sabin women (Bourgeois 623). All the guests were taken aback by the terrible sight before them. In this painting, there are many characters. All the characters come together. The action of them is also exaggerated. The use of light is also very reasonable. A bright sun shone on the naked chest of the captured woman, a vivid reflection of the brutality of the soldiers and the misery of Sabine women. The above oil painting is typical baroque works.
