The Renaissance is an essential revolution in human history. It ended the dark ages of the middle ages in Europe. Religious thought is no longer the dominant ideology in society. The church’s grip on society has been severely shaken. With the awakening of people’s thinking, humanism has become the mainstream of social development. The Renaissance not only promoted social progress and the change in people’s ideas but also improved the rapid growth of human art and culture. In Italy, a significant number of great artists were born.
Many paintings by Italian artists are on display. Although many pictures still feature religious figures, the way they are presented has changed dramatically. The characters are no longer single board, but very vivid. The image of the Madonna is no longer cold and has always maintained a sense of alienation. Instead, the image of the Madonna began to resemble that of a human mother. In the eyes of the Madonna, who holds the son, there is love for the child. The audience can see a secular feeling in the works of Italian Renaissance artists.
Also, perspective was widely used in the works of Italian painters (Morelli 1). No matter what angle people look at the painting, the eyes of the character are always looking at the viewer. The combination of art and science is an essential feature of the pictures on display. The alternations of light and shade create a sense of space that belongs to the work itself. Therefore, figure painting has become closer to reality, and it is easier for the audience to get a sense of truth from the arts. In oil paintings, the painter pays excellent attention to the expression of the texture of the figures. Using different colors, the painter entirely shapes the image of different characters. The independent and different styles express the artistic and spiritual pursuit of Italian Renaissance painters.
